Branches Counseling Body Image
Comprehensive Individual, Adolescent, Couples, and Family Therapy
Although body image tends to be a common issue shared by women of all ages  regardless of  size, genetics, family history, religious beliefs, or socioeconomic status, this is not to be interpreted as a gender specific issue. Men also share body image and self-esteem issues as well.

Body image issues can shift from common growth pains through the pre-teen and teenage years into self-esteem issues and distorted thinking.

Healthy body images lead to more honest perceptions of size and shape which lead to a healthy comfort level with our bodies. Distorted perceptions can lead to comparison to others, shame, anxiety, emotional distress, low self-esteem, depression, unhealthy dieting, and can affect how we think, feel, and interact with others on social and intimate levels.

When these issues are left untreated they can become more intensified and dramatic, these feelings can become internalized as long term belief systems that transition into more dangerous issues such as body dysmorphic disorder, eating disorders, social anxiety issues, and distorted perceptions of self.

Sometimes these feelings can be difficult to identify and mask as normal growth pains, depression, or situational stress.

If you or someone you know is struggling, there is hope and we can help.
